It has been about eight months since we joined the Tokai Carbon Group and made a new start as Tokai COBEX. This initial period was characterized by a respectful relationship with mutual trust building, resulting in a very smooth transition and a pleasant switch back to normal business.Both Tokai Carbon and Tokai COBEX have been in the carbon and graphite industry for more than a century. That means we speak the same language and have a common understanding about business objectives, allowing us to strategically align on a fast track to growth. We have set up an internal program to create a foundation for continuous improvement and sustainable growth. Our whole Smelting and Lining team is very proud of the results achieved in 2019: Tokai COBEX delivered 100% of targeted EBITDA Support for a local fire departmentTokai COBEX’s production plant in Nowy Sącz has been conducting fire drills with assistance from the local fire department. To express its appreciation, the company has donated money to the department and purchased a van for it in 2019.Production of a safety education videoThe company has produced a video aimed at raising awareness of safety in the workplace. Featuring the children of employees, the video calls on everyone to ensure safety on the factory floor. The project was also a good social learning experience for the children. and operating profit despite signs of weakening in the markets starting from the third quarter of last year, including the impact of trade friction between the U.S. and China. The year 2020 has brought along additional challenges, including coronavirus-related uncertainties and market volatilities. Under those circumstances, Tokai Carbon and Tokai COBEX are engaged in an open and constructive dialog to analyze potential synergies and opportunities for further developing our business. Our main goal is to contribute to the Tokai Carbon Group by achieving the targets of the T-2022 mid-term business plan in 2020 and subsequent years.
