Tokai Carbon Group's Friction Material Products Capable of Creating Reliable Performance

Sintered Metal Friction Materials: Toyocalloy®

Toyocalloy is a friction material manufactured via the powder metallurgy method through the mixture, molding and sintering processes of metal powders such as copper and tin, friction-adjustment materials such as ceramics and antifriction materials (e.g., graphite). Since its first domestic production in 1949, Tokai Carbon has continued R&D and was the first in the world to succeed in merchandising brake pads for motorcycles in 1978. Toyocalloy is applied to brake pads for motorcycles, and to clutches and brakes for construction, agricultural and other industrial machinery due to high durability. Antifriction material products derived from the technology are widely adopted in the hydraulic components of construction and industrial machinery.

Fiber Composite Friction Materials: Toyoca FC® (Technical Alliance Product with the Wellman Products Group of the United States)

For Toyoca FC®, organic fibers such as pulp and aramid, friction-adjustment materials such as ceramics and antifriction materials such as graphite are mixed and integrated as a fiber composite friction material, in which a thermosetting resin is impregnated and hardened. Tokai Carbon was a pioneer in this area beginning production in 1977. Fiber composite friction materials are used in wet-type applications in lubrication oil and are adopted for diverse applications such as clutches and brakes for construction, agricultural and industrial machinery. We have also developed carbon friction materials to which highly heat-resistant carbon fiber is applied. This product has been commercialized as an item in the Toyoca FC lineup.

Resin Mold Friction Materials (Products manufactured and sold by Tokai Material Co., Ltd.)

Resin mold friction materials are manufactured through the mixture, molding and thermosetting processes of resins such as phenol resin, friction-adjustment materials such as organic/non-organic fibers and ceramics and antifriction materials such as graphite. The Group company Tokai Material(former Miyoshi Sekimen) started production in 1919. Resin mold friction products are widely adopted in many fields in applications such as brake pads, brake shoes and linings for vehicles, trucks and buses, as well as brakes and clutches for industrial machinery such as presses.
